When Something Old Becomes Something New Again
As far back as I can remember, turtles have been important to me. As a child growing up in tropical South Florida, there were all kinds of turtles everywhere. Some were green and some snapped. “OUCH.” Others were huge, ancient beings who seemed to carry a deep soul wisdom beyond the physical, beyond time.
It was only natural that while birthing my sacred space rituals, the turtle would magically appear again. I open and close my sound healing circles by calling in the directions. Turtle wisdom guides us to the south.

Turtle wisdom recently made another appearance in my life. I rediscovered sacred information known by the Mayans, First Nations, and many Indigenous cultures: the turtle’s shell is an exact lunar calendar. There are thirteen scales on a turtle’s shell and it takes thirteen moons for the Earth to circle the Sun.
“…the Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee people use the back of a turtle’s shell as a lunar calendar. Depending on how we measure a lunar month, the moon goes around the earth in approximately 28 days. This means that in one year (365 days), the moon goes around 13 times, giving us 13 lunar months with 28 days each. Conveniently, if we examine a turtle’s shell, we find the same pattern of numbers of lunar months in a year and days in a lunar month.”

What wisdom is in a turtle’s shell?
Within turtle’s shell is the knowledge of time and the wisdom of the thirteen moons - Cosmic knowledge that is synchronized.
This new era on our planet has everything to do with awareness and change, plus a change of timing frequency or vibration. The 13 Moon-28-day calendar is a simple tool that helps us to raise our frequency and gives us a new lens to view both our day-to-day and planetary events. Both the Gregorian, the traditional calendar, and 13 Moon calendar operate with 52 seven-day weeks annually (364 days).
However, the 13 Moon calendar synchronizes solar and galactic cycles on July 26 correlating with the star Sirius. Each of the 13 moons has a power, action, and quality which define an annual program to synchronize our consciousness with the galactic cycles.
As a perfect measure of cosmic time, this calendar is an instrument for measuring synchronicity, a synchromometer,. Followed daily, it gives us a new vision in which to perceive events. In the New Time, synchronicity is the norm.
Simply put, if the calendar and time we follow is irregular, artificial, and mechanized, so become our mind, body, and soul. If the calendar we follow is harmonic and in tune with natural frequencies we return to a more spiritual way of life in harmony with nature - a symphony of synchronicity.
Thirteen refers to the thirteen galactic tones or powers of creation, which are also encoded in the thirteen moons or annual lunations. We all have a solar birthday and a guiding thirteen moon animal spirit power. Looking at the list of the thirteen moons below, which moon is your birthday, and which is your animal spirit power?

My previous blog reflected on choosing to be playful like a dolphin or a child. To be willy-nilly-silly through the certainty of change. To reside in the coherence of the heart. A Love Unicorn. Peals of laughter. Prankster merriment. Happily ever after. In each moment, to be reborn. I chose a photo of dolphins at play; however, there was another photo, a turtle, that called to my heart.
Yes, play is so important. Frivolity and fun keep us awake. What lights you up, ignites you for the good or bad? Can sound biolocate us in the darkest or brightest of times? Twisted in one moment and then soothed in another by joy and light?
What about those triggers, those energy warps when the breath is stuck? Hearts are racing. Palms are sweaty. I’ve called in Lady Luck and Sandalphon, the Archangel of Sound. What then?
All I need is breath, intention, and a beating heart to embody sound vibrations in word or song or poetry or breath work or art.
Sound waves spark imagination. Sound is the universal language. Sound expands in a spiral flow, a Fibonacci swell.
Solfeggio frequencies that offer a breadth of physical, mental, and emotional benefits.
And if you crave a little extra, call in a aromatic companion of high vibes. Power of flower essences to lift, as sound waves soar and shift.
Be willing in these moments to find beauty everywhere. A speck of sparkle to embody on this planetary oasis.
Things once perceived shapeshift and bend. A shoe, once a favorite then forgotten, becomes a new friend. Relationships once broken may become whole and healed again as something new. Like rebirth from the chrysalis into a radiant butterfly of stripes and many colors, I remember I can fly.

I remember being told not to wear my heart upon my sleeve as if having an open heart was a liability. Ingrained patterns old are now complete and become new as we dance into alignment from our crowns unto our feet.
Each morning, in the mirror I espy something new and beautiful… Aha, it’s me!
