The #4 Top Benefit of Sound Healing
It can lift depression and mitigate overwhelm from PTSD
Sound healing sessions are meant to be blissful and balancing yet sometimes sound triggers us. As I have mentioned before, what I find in my practice is that often the things that chafe us the most are the very people, places, memories and experiences that we are ready to release from our lives. With sound and breath, laughter and perhaps with a lion’s roar, we can.
One of my favorite instruments is a natural rainstick. These rainsticks, from Guatemala, became part of my life in the mid-1970’s. I was taught that the cactus would be prepared to a certain point so the thorns could be guided inside to create a kind of interwoven Fibonacci swirl. Tiny pebbles growing at the base of the cacti would be poured in and then the cactus would be plugged. Dancing stones bouncing off the repurposed Fibonacci thorns create the sound of the rain.
Interestingly, when one tips the rainstick back and forth like a seesaw, the sound waves may be a delicate rainfall or a thunderous downpour.
For me, the sound of the rainstick makes me feel safe, wanted, and protected. I feel transported like a little girl with blankets wrapped around me, listening to the rain land upon the roof and the windowpanes, knowing everything is possible. I am embraced. I feel secure. And that magic is everywhere.
However, one client recently told me that for her, it was like nails on a chalkboard. An emotional response to a trauma that she embodied was triggered by the rain.
And just the other day, as I was relaying her “nails on a chalkboard” story to another client, he revealed that to him it sounded like a rattlesnake. He also associated the sound with a childhood trauma. He found it difficult to breath and calm himself when he heard it.
Our bodies are very wise. Sound triggers, like the ones described, always offer an important message with an opportunity to be addressed, to be transformed.
Breathing techniques such as inhaling deeply through the nose, briefly suspending the breath, and then dropping into the expansiveness of the heart space where everything is possible can be very helpful in those “rum-tum-tum” moments when you require instant relief.
To fully mitigate, integrate, and lift the overwhelm of depression that post trauma may trigger, a series of regular sound healing sessions can help to release what no longer serves you and aid in your recovery.
In our initial session, we discuss PTSD and other traumas you may have experienced. How they are showing up in your life and in your body. We review your expectations and what you hope to accomplish.
I then compose and curate your custom symphony to orchestrate the perfect instruments, songs, and mantras calling, based upon where you are and where you desire to be.
Our triggers are clear-eyed teachers. We need to pay attention and learn from them.
There are a myriad of ways that sound may awaken, reawaken, and clear traumas held in the physical, emotional, etheric, and spiritual bodies. I am here to curate your custom Sound Healing symphony and guide you through an awakened journey home on frequencies of sound.
And please always remember, I love you so much.
Be in Bliss.
Love, Pamela
